Kamloops Firefighters join the Team Recchi roster
With $2,083,007 dollars raised to date for the ICU campaign at Royal Inland Hospital, the Kamloops Firefighters have joined as the seventh member of Team Recchi.
The Kamloops Fire Rescue, who have supported the Foundation’s efforts in the past with their annual calendar proceeds, have announced that they will be on the Team Recchi roster to support their local hospital during the home stretch to $3 million.
“We all have the same goal in mind, health for our community,” said Kevin Cassidy, Kamloops Firefighter. “Help can come in the form of saving lives as firefighter or by simply supporting our local healthcare facility.”
The Kamloops Firefighter’s Calendar is available now for $20 and can be purchased at either the Kamloops Fire Station #1 - 1205 Summit Drive or contact Kevin Cassidy at 250.372.5131 – Fireinfo@kamloops.ca.
Other members of the Mark Recchi 365 Day Challenge include Telus, Zimmer Wheaton, Aberdeen Mall, Iccha/Wish Fund, the Kamloops Blazers, and the RIH Medical Staff.
For almost 30 years, critically ill and injured patients have received life-saving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Royal Inland Hospital. The modern ICU will bring upgraded technology, improved privacy, greater efficiencies for hospital staff, and much-needed support and comfort to patients and their families and friends.
On the anniversary of September 11, 2001 Local 913 with Kamloops Fire Rescue put forth a memorial to commerate the day that so many lives (including 343 FDNY firefighters) were lost in tradgedy. The procession was led by the KFR honor guard with Fire Chief Moroz hosting the event. Emergency Services members of the community were invited to attend the event including Police, Fire, and Ambulance personnel. Fire Chaplain Reverend Ray Parker led the procession in a prayer, while Mayor Peter Milobar gave a moving speech. At 09:59 hours and 10:28 hours a moment of silence was held to honor the victims of the two World Trade Center towers at the precise time they fell. 4 bells were then sounded to end the procesion. On attendance were approximately 30 members of Kamloops Fire Rescue, 20 members of the local RCMP detachment, and 10 members of the BC Paramedics staff. In the face of tradgedy and turmoil the world will recover, but lest we forget those people that gave the ultimate sacrifice in those times of peril. Author -- Unknown IAFF Mourns the Death of Jack Layton August 22, 2011 -- The IAFF is mourning the death of a great Canadian who was a tremendous ally to Canada’s professional fire fighters. Jack Layton, a member of Parliament for Toronto-Danforth and leader of the federal New Democratic Party, died early Monday of cancer at the age of 61. “Canada has lost a great leader and fire fighters and all Canadian workers have lost a great champion,” says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. “The NDP’s members in Parliament were staunch supporters of the IAFF and our issues under his watch. He leaves a great legacy but he is gone much too soon.” A moment of silence was held for Layton at the IAFF Biennial Canadian Policy Conference in Markham, Ontario, which convened just hours after his death. A former university professor and Toronto city councilor, Layton made the successful leap to federal politics in 2003 when he was elected NDP leader. Layton was elected to the House of Commons a year later, and fought passionately to build a better society for all Canadians. He spoke at the IAFF Canadian Legislative Conference in Ottawa every year, where he enthusiastically endorsed the IAFF’s federal legislative issues, and he spoke at the 50th IAFF Convention in San Diego in 2010. In the May 2011 federal election, he led the NDP to Official Opposition status for the first time in party history, capturing 103 seats in Canada’s 308-seat House of Commons. Layton is survived by his wife, Olivia, who is NDP MP for Trinity-Spadina, and children Michael and Sarah. The IAFF expresses its deepest condolences to the family.
